Stacks Goudkamp are proud to be a sponsor of next week’s AeroPodium Asia Pacific Aviation Liability conference and to have our Victoria Roy (née Gallanders) as one of the confirmed expert speakers.

The conference, which is taking place in Sydney on 23 February 2016, will bring delegates up to date with developments in aviation law in the Asia Pacific region, with a particular focus on the regulation and liability of drones.

In the conference’s case round up our Victoria Roy will talk through some notable passenger liability cases decided by Australian courts over the past two years. Victoria will focus specifically on cases concerning international air carriage and the interpretation of the Montreal Convention 1999, making the decisions valuable knowledge for lawyers and industry professionals across the region.

The cases covered in Victoria’s talk will include court decisions regarding the definition of ‘accident’ on board aircraft, including two Australian cases which deal with injuries caused in the restricted conditions of economy class.  Victoria will also discuss developments in the MH370 and MH17 disasters, as well as the class action being brought against Rolls Royce  following the engine explosion that occurred on Qantas flight QF32 from Singapore to Sydney in November 2010.

Finally, Victoria will end her round up with the landmark decision of Casey v Pel-Air Aviation Pty Ltd and Helm v Pel-Air Aviation Pty Ltd in which the Supreme Court of NSW looked at the live issue of recoverability for psychological injury from an air carrier under the Montreal Convention, which has wide reaching applicability to State signatories across Asia Pacific and the world.

The conference is a must attend event for aviation lawyers and industry professionals.  To book your place, go onto AeroPodium’s website.
