I recently travelled to Canberra for a few days on business, which gave me an opportunity to visit some of my clients who live in rural New South Wales, far away from where I live and work.
I found the trip to be incredibly insightful and well worth the 1000+ kilometres of driving I chalked up over three days!
Visiting my clients on their properties gave me a unique insight into the day to day lives of clients who live differently to those of us living in suburban Sydney.
I was given a tour of a 1000 acre property which resembles one of the mountain stages of the Tour de France. My client, a sheep farmer, is required to navigate these hills daily to earn his livelihood, whilst managing the serious injuries he sustained in an accident which was not his fault.
There isn’t a single photo which could properly depict exactly how steep the hills on this property are. Visiting the property in person gave me an appreciation into how my client’s injuries affect him every single day, which I could not get without going and seeing the property for myself.
The trip gave me a real sense of the distances my client must travel to access essential medical and rehabilitation services. The trip ‘around the corner’ to the nearest General Practitioner or physiotherapist could be over one hour in each direction and take up half of my client’s day.
