Injuries on buses in NSW

Thousands of passengers every day catch buses around Sydney, and generally these commutes are a safe and efficient way to get around. However, sometimes things go wrong and passengers can be injured if the bus crashes, or breaks too hard.

If you are injured while travelling on a bus in New South Wales, you should take the following steps immediately:

  1. Seek urgent medical attention from your GP or local emergency department.
  1. Report the accident to the State Transit Authority (131 500). Alternatively, if you were travelling on a private coach then you should report the incident to them.
  1. Attend your local police station within 28 days and report the accident.
  1. Seek legal advice in regards to compensation. Sometimes the law can be quite difficult and complex when there is difficulty determining fault, or when there are multiple parties to the accident.

It is also crucial to act quickly as there are time restrictions that apply when making a claim in New South Wales:

  • You must submit a Motor Accident Personal Injury Claim Form within 6 months of the date of your accident.
  • You have 3 years from the date of the accident within which to commence proceedings in the District or Supreme Court of NSW.

If you or someone you know has suffered an injury whilst catching public transport, including buses, you may be entitled to compensation. To arrange a free, no-obligation assessment of your claim, please call Stacks Goudkamp on 1800 25 1800, or alternatively make an online enquiry.
