Stacks Goudkamp is a longstanding supporter of Wheelchair Sports NSW, so when their annual luncheon came around recently, Tom Goudkamp and a number of personal injury lawyers from our Sydney office were only too delighted to attend.
The annual luncheon is a must on the Wheelchair Sports NSW calendar, and this year’s event did not disappoint. Hosted by sports presenter Stephanie Brantz, guests heard about the great work that the charity has done in the past 12 months, and where the much-needed funds are targeted for this year. From basketball to road racing and rugby, Wheelchair Sports NSW truly opens up sporting opportunities for people with disabilities.
We were also moved by the stories of two inspirational Junior Wheelies and their Mums. The two young athletes spoke of day-to-day life with cerebral palsy and a spinal injury caused by a car accident, and the motivation and enjoyment that participating in sport on an equal playing field gives them. Their “can do” attitude, sense of humour and sporting achievements to date put most of the adult audience to shame, and certainly got us reaching for our wallets!
The highlight of the event was however guest speaker Leisl Tesch. Five time Paralympian medalist Leisl, who herself suffered a spinal injury after a bicycle accident as a teenager, was both entertaining and informative about why it’s so important for the charity to raise funds. We heard how the money raised from the luncheon will help the charity continue to provide services and sports equipment, so Junior Wheelies and emerging athletes can “keep on rolling” and go on to excel in wheelchair sports.
Stacks Goudkamp is a proud supporter of the great work that Wheelchair Sports NSW do, and we are looking forward to their next successful event.
