Last Friday Stacks Goudkamp Special Counsel, Belinda Cassidy, spoke at the Legalwise Motor Vehicle Injuries seminar.
Belinda was the first speaker in a star-studded line up including chair Peter Hunt (McCabe Curwoods), Ian Jones (Sparke Helmore) on fraud, Tina Bidese (SIRA) with scheme data and an update on what SIRA is doing in its regulatory and educative roles and Keith Rewell SC with Judicial Review 101.
Belinda spoke about three areas of interest based on her experience (and the experience of our firm) in Motor Accident Injuries Act claims including:
- Emerging legislative issues in the areas of blameless accident claims and the overlap between motor accident and workers compensation claims;
- Challenges with statutory benefits claims in particular surrounding issues of liability and adopting a different approach to claims for funeral expenses, pure mental harm; and
- Polishing the crystal ball to see what the next year might bring.
