We are proud to announce that Tom Goudkamp has been reappointed Chair of the NSW Law Society’s Specialist Accreditation Personal Injury Law Advisory Committee.

Tom has an outstanding record of serving as chair of this committee, with his recent reappointment marking 24 years since he was first appointed as its chair – a position he has held continuously since that time.

Tom was one of the original board members of the NSW Law Society when it introduced specialist accreditation in 1992 in a range of areas of law, including personal injury.

The advisory committee was responsible for creating mock files in four key areas of personal injury law – motor vehicle accidents, public liability, work injury and medical negligence, with dust diseases being added some years later.

Accreditation is offered to NSW lawyers every two years. On average, 50 lawyers apply for accreditation in personal injury law in each round, with around 35% of them failing to meet the stringent standard.

Tom has been responsible for creating the Motor Vehicle Mock Files for plaintiffs and defendants ever since 1992, as well as setting and marking exams and conducting peer interviews.

“There have been vast changes in personal injury law in the last 24 years,” Tom Goudkamp said. “It’s been a challenge to ensure that the assessment criteria have kept up with these changes. I’m honoured and delighted to be accepting reappointment to this position.”
