Multiple Fatalities in Wedding Bus Crash

In a devastating incident that has left the community in shock, a bus carrying wedding guests crashed in the Hunter Valley, resulting in multiple fatalities and numerous injuries.

The Accident

At approximately 11:30pm on Sunday, 11 June 2023 a single-vehicle collision took place on Wine Country Drive near the off-ramp to the Hunter Expressway. The bus, operated by Linq Bus Lines was en route to Singleton from a wedding at the nearby Wandin Valley Estate.

Tragically, there have been multiple fatalities in the wedding bus crash. Ten people lost their lives as a result of the bus accident with a further 25 suffering injuries. The injured passengers were transported to several hospitals, including John Hunter Hospital, Maitland Hospital, Calvary Mater in Newcastle, and Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney.

The community, as well as government officials, have expressed their heartfelt condolences to the victims and their families of the tragic accident. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Premier Chris Minns have offered their support, with Premier Minns personally attending the crash site today.

First responders were confronted with a distressing and traumatic scene, and there remains the tragic possibility that the death toll could rise.

Support for First Responders, Bus Accident Victims and Their Families

The last thing the family of these bus accident victims should have to worry about is finding the money to lay their loved ones to rest.  The current motor accident scheme has a statutory entitlement to reasonable funeral expenses for anyone killed in a motor vehicle accident on or after 1 December 2017.

Losing a loved one can be an incredibly painful and devastating experience. In such tragic circumstances, compensation for relatives claims can provide some financial support.  The specific eligibility criteria for compensation for relatives claims vary but generally, immediate family members, such as spouses, children, parents, and sometimes siblings, can make these claims.

There is also immediate access to trauma support for the members of the family of those who have been injured or killed in the bus accident in the Hunter Valley.

There are a number of different claims available to first responders, anyone injured, or to the relatives of anyone killed in the accident under the current motor accident scheme.
