Congratulations to Practice Group Leader Victoria Roy who raised over $1700 for the Orthopaedic Department at Westmead Children’s Hospital on Sunday by participating in the Blackmores running festival along with her four month old son.
Westmead Children’s Hospital is a cause close to our hearts as we see first hand the wonderful job they do treating children injured in accidents. Children with serious injuries in the Sydney region, particularly those with brain injuries and serious orthopaedic injuries suffered in motor vehicle accidents, will often be treated by the specialist teams at Westmead Children’s Hospital. However, the cause also has personal significance to Victoria as Westmead Children’s Hospital is treating her son for Developmental Dysplasia of the Hips which he was born with.
Keen to raise money for Westmead Children’s Hospital, as well as raise awareness of DDH, Victoria has been active during her maternity leave pushing baby Jasper in his 2kg full body plaster cast (known medically as a ‘spica’) up and down the many hills of Sydney’s lower north shore. This training paid off when she and Jasper jogged over the iconic Sydney Harbour Bridge on Sunday.
Following this achievement Victoria said, “I have been touched by everyone’s generosity and am extremely grateful for every single donation. Westmead Children’s Hospital have been wonderful to my family and are a very worthy cause. Adjusting to DDH has been challenging, but I hope that Jasper and I have shown that anything is possible in a spica!”
